Past Visiting Talents
DJ and Host, KCRW’s The Lab
Valida stopped off at KCRW Berlin in August 2018 to record a series of sessions and interviews with Berlin-based Jazzanova and DJ Kutmah. A key figure in LA’s nightlife scene, her specialty is a seamless blending of a variety of music styles. Since purchasing her first set of turntables in 1998, she has been featured at a variety of high profile events worldwide, including; Winter Music Conference, SXSW Music Conference, Regine in Paris, Dragon-I in Hong Kong, Mystique in Kuala Lumpur, Boudoir in Dubai, Nuphoria in Tokyo, Candela in Puerto Rico, Organic in Mexico, Barbados, San Salvador and her native Bosnia. Valida won a coveted nationwide Pew Charitable Trusts Fellowship, which allowed her to create and release a DJ-culture documentary film, Concentric Beats. She also regularly features at The Standard Hollywood, where she curates and deejays an intimate evening of live music called Desert Nights, her homage to the 60’s Laurel Canyon culture.
Arthur F. Burns Fellow Lakshmi Sarah reported on immigration issues for KCRW Berlin in August and September 2018. She has a background in newspapers, radio and magazines from Gaborone, Botswana to Los Angeles, California. She taught in Ladakh, India, and spent a year as a Fulbright fellow teaching, and doing freelance work in Germany.
Sage Van Wing
Executive Producer, OPR’s “Think Out Loud”
RIAS Fellow Sage Van Wing is the executive producer of Oregon Public Broadcasting’s daily talk show, “Think Out Loud.” She has produced daily news programs at other NPR affiliate stations Vermont Public Radio, KUOW in Seattle and KQED in San Francisco.

Oliver reported on tech and current affairs for KCRW Berlin as part of a month-long stint in August 2018. At The Takeaway, he produced stories and series on everything from Southern sounds, to the U.S. bail system, to smart cities
Host and Executive Producer, KCRW’s To The Point and Olney in L.A.
Warren visited KCRW Berlin in March 2018 to moderate a joint panel with Zocalo Public Square on “What Does Democracy Mean In The 21st Century.” A veteran brodcast journalist, Olney and his programs have been honored with nearly 40 national, regional and local awards for broadcast excellence. He is the only person to have been twice named “Broadcast Journalist of the Year” — for his work in both radio and television — by the Society of Professional Journalists, Los Angeles. He is the recipient of Emmy Awards for reporting and anchoring, and Golden Mikes for investigative reporting
Amanda reported on politics and culture for KCRW Berlin from February to June of 2018 as a participant in the German American Fulbright Commission’s Young Professional Journalist Program.
