Fredrika Brillembourg – Host of “Leitmotifs”
In “Leitmotifs,” New York-born and Berlin-based mezzo soprano Fredrika explores the world of classical music and opera through interviews with musicians and others connected to the industry. The conversations touch on each guest’s original attraction to music, their connection with Berlin and each guest’s “Leitmotif” or the one thing that brings them back to the refrain over and over again.
Fredrika has performed at many of the major opera houses and concert halls around the world including; Deutsche Oper Berlin, Theatre Royal de la Monnaie Brussels, De Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam, The Washington National Opera, Teatro la Fenice Venice, Komische Oper Berlin, Carnegie Hall New York, Suntory Hall Tokyo as well as at the festivals in Aix en Provence France and Bregenz, Austria.
She is highly acclaimed for her performances of modern works as well as for the standard mezzo repertory in roles like Carmen, Octavian, Brangaene, Amneris and many others. Besides singing opera she also has a one woman show called ¨One Touch of Genius¨ devoted to the music written for Broadway by Leonard Bernstein and Kurt Weill.
Fin Greenall (Fink) and Sven Fortmann (Forty) – Hosts of “The Fink+Forty Show”
“The Fink+Forty Show” is a weekly journey soundtracked by what is rocking the hippest city on earth right now.
Fin is an English singer-songwriter now based in Berlin. Initially an electronic music producer and DJ in the nineties and early noughties for legendary label Ninja Tune, he has been releasing more alternative material as Fink since 2006’s “Biscuits For Breakfast,” achieving both critical and commercial success with the 2014 full-length “Hard Believer.” He has also collaborated with many A-listers such as Amy Winehouse and John Legend, winning three prestigious BMI awards for his songwriting. He also currently runs two record labels, a publishing company, and is a visiting lecturer on the degree course at BIMM Berlin.
Sven has enjoyed a career as a successful DJ, with residencies at several legendary Berlin clubs as well as touring internationally. He is currently the editor in chief of the highly influential Lodown Magazine and co-founder of Berlin-based creative office Brand New History.
Dyan Valdés, Nathaniel Fregoso and Hannes Neupert – Hosts of “The Mexican Radio Radio Show”
Mexican Radio is a Berlin-based synth punk three-piece and “The Mexican Radio Radio Show,” their monthly music show on KCRW Berlin is their monthly mixtape made especially for you as they fearlessly lead you through the cutting edge of new music and pay tribute to the synth punk, post punk, Neue Deutsche Welle and new wave they love.
In each episode, punk rock correspondent Dyan braves Berlin’s live music hotspots with her bandmates Nathaniel and Hannes in tow, and goes toe-to-toe with the wildest and most innovative artists coming through town. The band combine these on-the-scene interviews, hand-selected tracks and rehearsal room banter to create a living document of the thriving underground scene. Past guests include Franz Ferdinand, IDLES, Ezra Furman, Surfbort, Amyl & the Sniffers, Black Lips, Stereo Total and Sleaford Mods.
Moderna – Host of “Brave New Rave”
Moderna first entered the electronic music scene at the age of 17 with her noise band, “The Static Cult.” She went on to become the founder of the groundbreaking music magazine RE:UP, as well as cultivator for indie label Ghostly International, and as an admired artist in her own right.
Her most recent collaboration with Mexico-based producer Theus Mago has earned her substantial acclaim. After releasing three EPs and several remixes, her wide-ranging discography is a testament to the international influences that she curates in her DJ sets. Residing in Berlin and touring worldwide, Moderna’s experience and knowledge connects listeners to the seductive Berlin underground in her cultivated show, “Brave New Rave” which explores Berlin’s influence on techno, electro and dark disco.
Henry Rollins – Host of “Henry Rollins’ Radio Show on KCRW Berlin”
