About KCRW Berlin

KCRW Berlin creates and curates a unique mix of news, culture and music, alongside the best shows that U.S. public radio has to offer. You can find us on the radio, digitally and in person – serving the English-speaking community in and around Berlin.

Our aim is to build an engaged community and become the destination for unparalleled English content in our city and beyond.

News and culture:

KCRW Berlin’s news and editorial team is small and mighty, led by program director and veteran NPR correspondent Soraya Sarhaddi Nelson. During the week we bring our audience daily editions of “News in Brief,” featuring local, national and international news, making us the go-to place for clear, relevant and timely information in English.

Our flagship news and current affairs show, “Studio Berlin,” airs every Wednesday morning, where hosts Sylvia Cunningham and Sumi Somaskanda bring together experts to provide context and analysis around the issues shaping our lives here in the German capital. In addition, our regular “Berlin Report” segments delve into the hotbed issues of our community from “Black Lives Matter” protests to the saga of Berlin’s airports, and much more.

As for our cultural programming, our weekly micro-essay series “Wednesday 3 p.m.,” created and produced by Monika Müller-Kroll, offers the listener a glimpse into someone else’s life with features written by writers from around the world. In addition, our monthly storytelling show “The Bear on KCRW Berlin” brings true, personal stories from Berliners told live on stage.

To complement our in-house productions, KCRW Berlin broadcasts news programming from our sister station, the Los Angeles-based KCRW, including “To the Point with Warren Olney” (co-production with PRI), “All The President’s Lawyers” and “Left, Right & Center.”

We also air NPR’s flagship news program “Morning Edition” and its popular news magazine, “All Things Considered.” KCRW Berlin also broadcasts American Public Media’s daily business and economy program “Marketplace,” and PRI’s global news program, “The World.”

Every evening, we offer KCRW’s world-renowned music programming through the Eclectic 24 music stream. In addition, we are growing our own musical roster, embracing Berlin’s rich musical history, from techno to indie, from synth punk to classical music.

Mondays bring our weekly indie and alternative music offering, “The Fink+Forty Show,” featuring industry veterans Fin Greenall and Sven Fortmann comparing their favorite new releases. Thursdays we feature “Brave New Rave,” a two-hour show mixed by Berlin-based DJ, Moderna, exploring Berlin’s influence on techno, electro and dark disco. On Fridays the legendary frontman, actor and writer Henry Rollins delivers his two-hour radio show to KCRW Berlin. In addition, our monthly music show, “The Mexican Radio Radio Show,” plays synth-punk, Neue Deutsche Welle and new wave, complete with interviews with bands and musicians such as John Dwyer, Death Valley Girls and Sleaford Mods.

On Saturday we broadcast our weekly segment, “Amplified,” featuring interviews with a host of artists linked to the city, including the monthly classical music segment “Leitmotifs,” hosted by opera singer Fredrika Brillembourg.
