Deutsche Bahn announced the average punctuality of the Berlin S-Bahn last year was 96.1%, thereby achieving one of the main goals of the company’s comprehensive S-Bahn PLUS program, launched in July 2018.
The railway company is investing 30 million euros into the program, which is designed to improve the quality and punctuality of train service in Berlin.
Deutsche Bahn also said train cancellations decreased by 39%. Cancellations and delays due to planned construction were not factored into that total.
The Berlin architectural firm “O&O Baukunst” submitted the winning design for the new Siemensstadt in Spandau.
A main feature of the winning design is a high-rise structure and an urban square. The buildings once used for switchgear production at Siemens are planned to be repurposed for public use.
Construction on Siemensstadt 2.0 could begin as early as 2022.
The British actor Jeremy Irons has been named president of the International Jury at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival.
Irons said in a statement that he’s been a longtime admirer of the Berlinale. He was first a guest at the festival in 2011 when the film, “Margin Call,” was in competition.
The Berlinale takes place this year from February 20 to March 1.
