The 12th edition of DOKUARTS, saw a celebration of films about art and artists, in Berlin during October 2019 under the theme of nuance, and examining its significance in the realm of documentary filmmaking.
The international festival presented 25 films about art from 17 different countries, including Brazil, Mexico, Iran, Lebanon, China, and Pakistan. More than half of the cinematic work was either created by women directors or features female artists. All films were shown in Berlin for the first time, most of them as the German premiere. Many of the filmmakers were present to introduce their work; among them are documentaries featuring: Mania Akbari, Miles Davis, Ida Haendel, Jacqueline de Jong, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Miloš Forman, Seamus Heaney, Toyo Ito, Naomi Kawase, Buster Keaton, Maleonn (Ma Liang), Piet Oudolf, Ziva Postec, Paula Rego and Orson Welles.
