In August 2018 Hanifa Yousoufi, 24, became the first Afghan woman to summit her country’s highest mountain, Mt. Noshaq.
At 15 years old, Hanifa had no formal education, was illiterate, and was forced by her parents into an arranged marriage. Through the Ascend program, and her own determination, Hanifa is now working toward internationally recognized status as a mountain trekking guide. She was formally recognized as one of her country’s female heroes by Afghan First Lady Rula Ghani.

The afternoon screening features a version more suitable to a teenage audience.
