For many people, flying feels unavoidable. But according to the Berlin-based carbon offsetting nonprofit Atmosfair, a single person has an annual carbon “budget” of 2.3 metric tons per year, which can be blown in a single round-trip flight from Berlin to New York City.

But can carbon offsetting give you a “clean conscience” when flying? We looked into the issue to find out.
