English Theatre Berlin’s 2019 Expo festival seeks to reflect Berlin’s diversity on stage

Since 2013, the Expo festival has featured a curated selection of performances by international artists from the theater community. We spoke with festival creator Daniel Brunet from English Theatre Berlin to learn more about this year’s lineup.

Since 2013, the Expo festival at English Theatre Berlin | International Performing Arts Center has featured a curated selection of performances by international artists from the city’s theater community. This year, festival creator Daniel Brunet invited choreographer Olivia Hyunsin Kim and theater director Shlomo Lieberman to join the curatorial team in the hopes of creating a lineup that is reflective of Berlin’s diversity.

“Berlin is one of the most international cities I’ve ever lived in, and I spent eight years living in New York City, in Brooklyn, off and on. This diversity is not always reflected on the city’s stages and performance venues,” says Brunet. The 2019 festival lineup features Berlin-based artists from 30 different countries extending far beyond Western Europe and North America.

The English Theatre Berlin 2019 Expo festival will take place from April 28–May 4. We have a pair of passes to give away to the full festival, visit our event page to find out more.
