Silbernetz, or Silver Network, is a telephone line aimed at helping senior citizens in Berlin who are dealing with loneliness. Based on a service in the U.K. called The Silver Line, Silbernetz has been up and running for the last three months for German speakers to call 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Founder Elke Schilling tells us about what led her to set up the venture, her goals for the New Year, and how to confront what she calls the taboos of age and loneliness in German culture.
