In Politics: Germany prepares to exit from coal, and Berlin’s reaction to Brexit crisis

This week in politics, U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May survived a second no-confidence vote a day after her Brexit deal was defeated in Parliament. Is Germany prepared for Brexit? We discussed the reaction from Berlin with Deutschlandfunk Kultur’s Nana Brink. “One headline comes to the point,” says Brink, “The Brits are helpless, so is Europe and Germany.”

Germany aims to phase out coal by 2030. Angela Merkel met with the coal- state Prime Ministers, which have requested 60 billion euros in subsidies over the transition. “Chancellor Merkel faces tough choices,” says Brink.
