The International Literature Festival Berlin begins tonight, opening 10 days of readings and discussions, lectures and panels, with 200 authors from 50 countries. We spoke to head of program, Simone Schröder, about how this year’s themes are a literary reaction to current global events, and how to get the most out of the festival.

For the 18th edition, Schröder tells us that a significant boost in public funding has allowed the festival to expand its offerings for its international audience, not only with multilingual programming, but also with its principal themes: decolonization, drugs, and nature.
