The Down Under Berlin – Australian & New Zealand Film Festival kicks off for its eighth year on Sept. 19, offering a lineup of films, half of which were created by female filmmakers. We caught up with two of the festival’s directors, Charmaine Gorman and Auste Serapinaite, to find out more.

The theme of this year’s festival is “Landscapes of Us” and Gorman reflects on the reason for this: “What I first thought when we were watching all the films is the visual landscapes of the country is just beautiful…but then there’s also personal landscapes of how people grow and how they deal with certain situations.”

Down Under Berlin – Australian & New Zealand Film Festival runs from Sept. 19 to Sept. 23 at Moviemento in Kreuzberg.
