This Saturday, April 21, over 3,000 record stores worldwide will take part in Record Store Day. The now-annual tradition began in 2008 to unite customers, artists, and record stores. We spoke to the owners of Berlin stores Dodo Beach, Musik Department, Soul Trade, Old School and HHV to see what their plans are.
Stephan from Dodo Beach talks about the live acts that will be playing in both stores on Saturday. Rene from Soul Trade adds that they will be selling some special soundtrack editions, jazz and funk 45’s in-store.
Bernd from Musik Department admits that he is not a huge fan of the day, despite his shop taking part for the eight year. He explains that when the day was introduced it was designed to “remember the small stores” whereas now “it’s about business.” He adds, however, that to be critical is “not to be negative,” inviting people to stop by, have a look, have a listen and see what they like.
KCRW Berlin will be covering Record Store Day in Berlin on this website and through our social media. Check our Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and website for photos, videos, and more, on the day, or, for a full listing of what’s happening locally, check out the official Record Store Day DE website.
