This year marks the 20th anniversary of V-Day, a global campaign started by playwright and activist Eve Ensler to end violence against women. In recognition of the anniversary, the American Women’s Club of Berlin will be performing Ensler’s play “The Vagina Monologues” on Feb. 22 and 23 at the English Theatre Berlin.

In light of the #MeToo movement and the dialogue around sexual harassment, assault and abuse, director Molly Brown hopes her production can be a “Greek chorus” for the women speaking out.

Luisa Weiss, a writer and creator of the popular food blog, “The Wednesday Chef,” is one of the performers in the 13-person cast. She says it’s time to demand that “women’s rights and violence against women be taken seriously.”

All proceeds from the performances will go to Ban Ying, a women’s advocacy project in Berlin which fights for the rights of migrant women who have experienced violence, exploitation, or human trafficking.
