One year after Christmas market terror attack, Angela Merkel admits mistakes were made

As people gathered at the Breitscheidplatz Christmas market on Tuesday to remember the victims of the 2016 terror attack, Chancellor Angela Merkel admitted failures and security shortcomings in relation to the attack. Berlin Mayor Michael Müller asked the families of the victims for forgiveness.

“The common thread at the memorial was that all the politicians have apologized for the mistakes that were made during the last year,” said Ronja Ringelstein, a reporter for Der Tagesspiegel who has been following the story.

Ringelstein joins Monika Müller-Kroll to talk about if the incident could have been prevented and how the case of the attacker, Anis Amri, is moving forward.
