They Have Names exhibition features photos of refugee children to connect figures with faces

They Have Names is a photo project that puts faces to figures. Penny Eifrig and photographer Daniel Sonnentag teamed up after volunteering and working with kids who lived at the International Congress Center (ICC), one of the city’s largest refugee camps. The result of the partnership was a book and exhibitions in both Berlin and Eifrig’s other home in State College, Pennsylvania.

“The whole campaign is basically to share this idea of we have this common humanity,” said Eifrig. “Parents love their children, children love to play.”

Monika Müller-Kroll talks with Eifrig and Sonnentag about the origins of the exhibition and the response it has received in the U.S.
