Christmas comes early for one Berlin cook and her team as they get one step closer to achieving dream of opening gastro pub

Christmas came early this year for Berlin cook Susan Choi and her business partners, Shawn Beck and Damien Guichard. Just about a week ago, they were handed the keys to a space in Mitte that will eventually become their very own gastro pub. 

Sylvia Cunningham speaks with Choi and Beck about the key to a great drink and what makes a successful bartender. Plus, step by step ingredients on making a Christmas-style old fashioned.

Recipe for a Christmas-Style Old Fashioned

60 mL (2 oz) of bourbon
10 mL (bar spoon) of maple syrup
Couple dashes of walnut bitters (orange bitters is a good substitute)
Orange peel (optional)
Cinnamon (optional)

Combine the bourbon, maple syrup, and walnut bitters. Add ice and stir. For a fancy touch, sprinkle some cinnamon on top and garnish it with an orange peel. Then enjoy!
