Chris Dercon arrived to Berlin in a cloud of controversy about what his appointment as artistic director of the Volksbühne would mean for the legendary theater.
Since taking over the position, Dercon has begun working with creative teams and moving forward. He said he hopes to offer a platform to “artists and art forms who are in between.”
Dercon joins Marlene Melchior to talk about what he calls the “fragile city” of Berlin, why he chose work by Samuel Beckett to open the season, and the legacy he hopes to leave behind at the Volksbühne.
