For the most part, it was business as usual on the rainy opening day of the Christmas Market at Breitscheidplatz. One tourist from London said it wasn’t until she saw a memorial with crosses and candles that she realized the 2016 terror attack had happened just yards away from where she stood near Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.
“It’s a sobering thought and you just have to be more vigilant but at the end of the day terrorism is to make you feel terror, so you have to kind of stand up against it and live your life and be happy really,” she said.
Sylvia Cunningham visited the Christmas market on its opening day to talk to visitors about the market’s return and increased security on the ground.
